We witnessed some incredible stories on the European Tour in 2019. There were impressive comebacks, many rookies put their name on the world map of golf and several big names entered in the seniors circuit. Here are our favorite stories of the 2019 in the European Tour..enjoy 🙂
Tiger Woods returned to the elite circle of major winners with his win at the 2019 Masters Tournament. In April the former world number one claimed his 15th major title and his first since the 2008 U.S Open Championship.
Shane Lowry was the local hero during the 2019 Open Championship at Royal Portrush GC. The Open returned in Ireland after more than 50 years and it was a dream come true to have an Irish winner.
In the last couple of years the European Tour became the leading innovator in the world of professional golf. Several new tournaments with different format and initiatives were introduced aiming to make golf more attractive for spectators and sponsors. Such initiative is the “Beat the pro” challenge. The rules are simple. A randomly picked spectator has the chance to play alongside the pros on a par three hole. He is the winner if he can get his ball closer to the pin than the pros. During the 2019 KLM Open a 100 years old lady was playing alongside Patrick Reed and co proving once again that golf is for all ages.
Nicolas Colsaerts is an European Tour winner again. The Belgian, who was part of the winning European team at the 2012 Ryder Cup, needed more than seven years to claim his third European Tour title. He faced different challenges since 2012, but finally the big hitting Belgian managed to stabilize his game and return among the best in the world.
Bernd Wiesberger was out of the course for seven months in 2018. The Austrian started 2019 with three consecutive missed cuts, but since May he became major factor on the European Tour and won three titles. Two of them came in Rolex Series events and the Austrian had the lead in Race to Dubai till the last tournament of the season.
