Matt Wallace set the pace at BMW PGA Championship

Home favorite Matt Wallace posted magnificent bogey-free round of 65 and took the lead after the opening round of the 2019 BMW PGA Championship. The Englishman leads at seven under par, one shot clear of the 2016 Open champion Henrik Stenson and tournament rookie Jon Rahm. Once again Wentworth GC provided great golfing conditions which affected the scoring today. The course was played on par or better by 84 golfers.

First round leaderboard:

Last season Matt Wallace claimed three European Tour titles, but he is yet to win this season. Wallace already posted some good results this year including a third place at the PGA Championship.

Thanks to the changes in tournaments calendar we see more golfers, who play mainly on the PGA Tour, participating in tournaments on European soil. Such is the case with Jon Rahm. In July Rahm claimed the title аt Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.

Ernie Els, who was part of the team that redesigned Wentworth about ten years ago, had great day at the office. The South African veteran posted first round 68 and shares fifth place at four under par.
