Laurie Canter storms ahead at the Italian Open

Laurie Canter set a new course record to take the lead after the opening day of the 2020 Italian Open at Chervò Golf Club. The Englishman posted first round 60 and leads the way at 12 under par. He is four clear of Dean Burmester and Joachim B. Hansen who share second place at eight under par. The day was marked by very low scoring and 98 golfers managed to play the course on par or better.

First round leaderboard:

Laurie Canter didn’t make any mistakes today and carded one eagle and ten birdies. Canter is playing his 85th European Tour tournament, but he is still looking for his maiden title. A win on Sunday will move him within the top 160 in the world. He started the week ranked 227th.

Victor Perez arrived in Italy as one of the biggest favorites for the win. The Frenchman, ranked 37th in the world, shares 16th place at five under par after day one.
