Jack Senior surprised the favorites and took the lead after the opening day of the 2021 abrdn Scottish Open. The Englishman posted first round 64 and sits at seven under par. Lee Westwood and Justin Thomas are a shot behind and share second place.
First round leaderboard:
World number one Jon Rahm makes his first appearance on the course since the U.S Open. Rahm should finish no worse than tied for sixth to remain at the top of the Official World Golf Ranking. After the first day at The Renaissance Club he shares fourth place at five under par.
It is hard to believe that Justin Thomas hasn’t posted a top 10 in his last eight tournaments. The last time Thomas did it was in March when he claimed the title at THE PLAYERS Championship.
Solid start in the tournament for the veteran Ian Poulter. Poulter, who has 12 European Tour titles under his belt, hasn’t won on tour since November 2012. With a win this week Poulter will return inside the top 50 golfers on the planet and will significantly increase his chances to make the European Ryder Cup Team.
Lee Westwood took a break after the U.S Open and it seems like this was a good decision. The Englishman played the course at six under par and he is only one behind the leader Jack Senior.
