Justin Rose played solid golf on Thursday and as a result took the solo lead after the opening round of the 2021 Masters. The Englishman posted first round 65 and leads the way at seven under par. Brian Harman and Hideki Matsuyama are four shots back and they share second place at three under par.
First round leaderboard:
Justin Rose is playing his first tournament after one month break. The last time we saw Rose on the course was a month ago at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The Englishman then withdrew at the third round due to an injury. Rose is playing his 16th Masters and so far he has five top 10 finishes. His best result came in 2016 when he lost in a playoff against Sergio Garcia.
The shot of the day belongs to Tommy Fleetwood who made a hole-in-one on the par three 16th. After day one the Englishman is at two over par and shares 30th place.
In-form Jordan Spieth had a dynamic day on the course. The 2015 champion carded a triple bogey, an eagle, bogeys and birdies on his way to first round 71. Spieth shares eight place on the current leaderboard at one under par.
