Shane Lowry and J.B. Holmes set the pace at the Open

Shane Lowry and first round leader J.B. Holmes lead the way after the second round of the 148th Open Championship. Both continued with their strong performance from the opening round and lead at eight under par. English duo Lee Westwood and Tommy Fleetwood are only a shot behind and shares third place at seven under par. Some notable names including Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Jason day failed to make the cut and we won’t see them during the weekend.

Second round leaderboard:

Home favorite Shane Lowry enjoys very good season so far. In January Lowry won in Abu Dhabi and in the past two months he recorded three top 10 finishes in PGA Tour events.

Local favorite Rory McIlroy showed brand new face today and he followed yesterday’s 79 with magnificent 65 today. However this was not enough and McIlroy missed the cut by one after finishing at two over par.

Another solid round from former world number one Lee Westwood. He put himself in great position and has all chances to lift the Claret Jug on Sunday and claim his maiden major title.

Tommy Fleetwood is one of the most consistent golfers in the last couple of years. He is a real birdie machine and it won’t be surprise if we see him with the trophy on Sunday.
