Shane Lowry matched the course record and leads the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship

Shane Lowry from Ireland tied the course record and took the lead at Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. Lowry posted opening round 62 in which he recorded ten birdies and no bogeys.

“I’m obviously over the moon. It equals the best score I’ve ever shot…
I had quite a lot of time off since the World Cup but put in a decent bit of work the last two weeks over here in Dubai and I’ve just gone out with not much expectation but knew I was playing OK and yeah, everything clicked.”… said the leader after the end of his round.

Four players share second place at 7 under par. Richard Sterne, Mike Lorenzo-Vera, Louis Oosthuizen and Pablo Larrazábal are three shots behind the leader Lowry after first round 65.

First round leaderboard:

Shane Lowry’s 62 is impressive itself, but it get’s more impressive considering the fact that he hit only five fairways today. Here are the highlights from his opening round:

Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship – Tee Times Rounds 1 & 2

The last season was not the best in Pablo Larrazábal’s career. The Spaniard missed some tournaments due to injury, but it looks like is is back to his best.

Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship is the first European Tour tournament where the new rules apply. Lee Westwood was one of the players who had the chance to deal with them 🙂
