World number two Rory McIlroy showed his best golf and after a playoff with Xander Schauffele won his fourth title for 2019 at the 2019 WGC-HSBC Champions. McIlroy posted final round 68 to finished the tournament at 19 under par. This score was matched by the defending champion Xander Schauffele. Schauffele birdied the last on his way to fourth round 66. The winner was decided on the first round extra hole which McIlroy won with a birdie.

With this win Rory McIlroy becomes the most successful European golfers at World Golf Championship events. The Northern Irishman now has three WGC titles, one more than Darren Clarke, Ian Poulter and Justin Rose. McIlroy was ranked 8th in the world at the end of 2018, but thanks to his four titles in 2019 he climbed to second. As a result of today’s triumph McIlroy moves to 5th at Race to Dubai with three events remaining.
Xander Schauffele didn’t manage to defend his title but he can be happy about his performance. The American posted another solid result in 2019.
