Hideki Matsuyama claimed his eight PGA Tour title after winning the 2022 Sony Open in Hawaii in a playoff. The Japanese posted final round 63 and as a result climbed to 23 under par for the tournament. Third round leader Russell Henley also finished the tournament at 23 under par after he played the course at five under on Sunday. The winner was decided on the first extra hole won by Matsuyama with an eagle. Kevin Kisner and Seamus Power shared third place after finishing at 19 under par.

This is Hideki Matsuyama’s eight PGA Tour title and his second of the season. Thanks to it the 2021 Masters champion will climb to 10th in the world which is a jump with nine spots.
Russell Henley had a fantastic start of the final round and made the turn at six under for the day. However the American was not able to keep this tempo and played the back nine at one over par. This solo second place secured Henley a return inside the top 50 in the world and increased his chances to get a spot at this year’s Masters.
