Harris English and Justin Thomas share the lead in Maui

Harris English and the defending champion Justin Thomas share the lead after the opening day of the 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions 2021. The duo leads at eight under par after first round 65. Six players, including Masters champions Sergio Garcia and Patrick Reed, are at six under par and share third place.

First round leaderboard:

The lack of wind at Kapalua allowed the players to be aggressive and this is easily visible from the scores. From 42 players in the field this week only two played the course over par in day one.

Justin Thomas, two-time champion in the tournament, simply loves this golf course. The American is 40 under par for his last nine rounds in the tournament. If Thomas lift the trophy on Sunday he will become the first player in ten years to successfully defend his title. The last player who managed to do this was Geoff Ogilvy who won here in 2009 and 2010.

Sergio Garcia had a rough start this week and found himseld two over thru three holes. However the 2002 champion managed to tune his game and played the rest 15 holes at eight under par. As a result the Spaniard climbed to six under par and he is only two behind the leaders Harris English and Justin Thomas.
