Team Europe won all four matches from Friday’s afternoon session to take 5-3 lead after the first day of the 42nd Ryder Cup. The Americans won the morning fourballs session with 3-1, but they were not able to respond to Europe’s inspired playing in the afternoon and lost all four matches for the first time since 1989.
