American Xander Schauffele won Sentry Tournament of Champions, the first PGA Tour event of the year, after breathtaking final round 62. Schauffele started the final round five shots behind Gary Woodland. At the end he birdied the par 5 18th to finish the event at 23 under par. Third round leader Gary Woodland finished just a shot behind after fourth round 68 (-5). Justin Thomas climbed to solo third at the final leaderboard thanks to his fourth round of 8 under par.
Xander Schauffele was satisfied with his performance and after the end of his round said:
“It was a crazy day…..I didn’t do much leaderboard watching. I knew it was going to be a birdie fest at the end. We kept our head down and made a run for it……”

Xander Schauffele started his final round with a bogey on the opening hole. His fortunes turned quickly and he carded two eagles and eight birdies which tied course record at 62.
With this win the 25 years old American climbed to career best 6th in the Official World Golf Ranking.
