The 101st edition of the PGA Championship will start in less than 24 hours. World top golfers are already in New York and prepare for what is expected to be a hell of a championship.
The week started with a comment by the Masters champion Tiger Woods who was asked to share his opinion about the permission that John Daly received to use a golf cart during the tournament. Daly was struggling with knee injury in recent years and he has not played in a golf tournament without a golf cart since last September. Asked to comment, Woods said “I walked with a broken leg” so it’s not a big deal. Woods was referring to his 2008 US. Open win when the played with knee pain all week. After the tournament he underwent a surgery and was off the course for more than 3 months.
Bethpage Black is expected to be a brutal test for all golfers this week. It is long and with the cold weather it will be played even longer than it is. The tick rough will punish every shot which doesn’t find a fairway or green.
Phil Mickelson arrived in New Your in good mood. If he manage to control his tee shots we shouldn’t be surprised if we see him in contention on Sunday afternoon.
Rory McIlroy is among the main favorites this week. He concentrated on his short game during today’s practice round.
