Patrick Cantlay matched the course record and took the lead after the opening day of the 2021 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The American carded ten birdies without to drop a shot and leads the way at 10 under par. Akshay Bhatia and Henrik Norlander played the course at eight under par and share second place.
First round leaderboard:
The calm weather at Pebble Beach allowed the players to be more aggressive and this affected the score. From all players 96 managed to play on par or better in day one.
Patrick Cantlay became tournament favorite after world number one Dustin Johnson withdrew earlier this week. Cantaly is ranked 11th in the world, but a win on Sunday will move him inside the top 10.
Akshay Bhatia is only 19 years old, but he already has a top 10 finish on the PGA Tour. It came earlier this season when Bhatia shared ninth place at the Safeway Open. The young American is ranked 987th in the world and with a strong finish this week will make a serious jump.
