Cameron Smith claimed his second PGA Tour title after winning the 2020 Sony Open in Hawaii. Smith, who started the day three back, posted final round 68 to climb to 11 under par. Third round leader Brendan Steele was struggling in his fourth round and played the course at one over par. As a result the American dropped to 11 under par and shared first place alongside Cameron Smith after the regular 72 holes. The duo went out on the course one more time to determine the winner. It didn’t take long to crown the new champion as Australian Smith won the first extra hole with a par.
Sony Open in Hawaii 2020 final leaderboard:
Cameron Smith already has one PGA Title, but it was in a team event. In 2017 he and his partner Jonas Blixt won the title at Zurich Classic of New Orleans after a playoff.
Brendan Steele missed a good chance to win his fourth PGA Tour title. Steele had the lead when he tee-offed on the par five 18th, but a poor second shot cost him the birdie. Thanks to that missed opportunity he stayed at 11 under par and had to participate in the playoff.
