Max Homa claimed his second PGA Tour title after winning The Genesis Invitational in a playoff. Homa played solid golf on Sunday and carded five birdies on his way to final round 66. As a result the American climbed to the top of the leaderboard with score of 12 under par. This score was matched by fellow American Tony Finau whose 64 in the final round was the best result for the day. The duo went out on the course one more time to decide the winner. It became clear on the second extra hole won by Homa with a par. First three days leader Sam Burns finished solo third at 11 under par.
The Genesis Invitational 2021 final leaderboard:
This is Max Homa’s second PGA Tour, the American made his break trough at the 2019 Wells Fargo Championship. Thanks to his triumph at Riviera Homa moves to 38th in the world, a jump with more than 50 spots. He makes a serious move at the FedEx Cup standings as well and from today he is ranked 10th.
It is hard to believe that Tony Finau has only one PGA Tour title and it came at the Puerto Rico Open at Coco Beach – an alternate event. In the last few years he is a constant presence at the top 50 in the world. He even made his Ryder Cup debut in 2018 in France.
