Luke Donald named Ryder Cup 2020 vice-captain

Padraig Harrington named Luke Donald as his second vice-captain for Ryder Cup 2020. Donald joins Robert Karlsson who already has been confirmed as one of Harrington’s assistants.

Donald is former world number one and one of the most successful European golfers during this century. The Englishman has five PGA Tour titles and seven titles from the European Tour under his belt. He has represented Europe in Ryder Cup as player four times and has always been part of the winning team. His last appearance in the prestigious event was in 2012 when Team Europe produced one of the greatest comeback in sports history. In 2018 Donald served as vice-captain for Thomas Bjorn in Paris.

Ryder Cup 2020 is planned to be held in September at Whistling Straits, but there are too many uncertainties around the event. Some of the leading players in the world already stated that they don’t want to participate if fans are not allowed to attend the tournament. Harrington also shared the same opinion, but later said that players may need to accept the event to be played behind closed doors “for the team”. It is also not clear how the two teams will be determined as due to the pandemic several tournaments were canceled and golf on highest level was not played since
