Jon Rahm is the new world #1 after triumph at the Memorial

Jon Rahm became the new world number one after winning the 2020 the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village GC. The Spaniard posted final round 75 to finish the tournament at nine under par. He finished three shots clear of Ryan Palmer, who played the course on two over for the day. Matthew Fitzpatrick climbed with 15 spots on the leaderboard to solo third after final round 68.

This is Rahm’s fourth PGA Tour title and his first since April 2019. Rahm becomes the second Spanish player to top the Official World Golf Ranking. He follows the steps of legendary Seve Ballesteros who has been number one for a total of 61 weeks.

The course was a real test for the players on Sunday. Only five players managed to play it under par. The round of the day belongs to Matthew Fitzpatrick who needed 68 strokes to complete his round. The Englishman had the support on the back from Mickelson’s long time caddie Jim (Bones) Mackay. Fitzpatrick’s regular caddie Billy Foster stayed in England due to due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
