Matthew Fitzpatrick held his nerve to win the 2020 DP World Tour Championship. The Englishman birdied five of his first seven holes today to finish the tournament at 15 under par. Lee Westwood took the solo place with score of 14 under par after final round 68. This was enough for the veteran to claim the title at the Race to Dubai for third time in his career. Patrick Reed and the rising star Viktor Hovland shared third place after finishing at 13 under par.
DP World Tour Championship 2020 final round:
This is Matthew Fitzpatrick’s sixth European Tour title and his first in a Rolex Series event. Thanks to it Fitzpatrick will move inside the top 18 at the Official World Golf Ranking where he was ranked 22nd prior the tournament.
Lee Westwood had another solid European Tour season where he managed to win once and post several top 10 finishes. As a result the Englishman claimed the Race to Dubai crown for third time in his career. Westwood, at the age of 47 years, 7 months & 20 days, becomes the oldest played to win Race to Dubai. His first triumph in the season long race was twenty years ago when the race still was named “Order of Merit”.
Patrick Reed had the lead at Race to Dubai before the tournament and has all the chances to become the first American player to win Race to Dubai. Reed showed great golf this week, but the two bogeys on 16th and 17th today cost him the win.
