Xander Schauffele is the new Olympic champion after winning the Olympic Men’s Golf Competition. The American finished the tournament with score of 18 under par after final round 67. The silver medal in Tokyo went to Slovakia represented by Rory Sabbatini. He played the course at ten under par today and as a result climbed the leaderboard with 15 spots to solo second. C.T. Pan completed the top three after finishing at 15 under par. Pan won the bronze medal after seven-men playoff.
Xander Schauffele’s gold medal is the first Olympic title for Team USA since golf returned to the Olympic family. In 2016 in Rio they won a bronze medal thanks to Matt Kuchar.
Rory Sabbatini is born in South Africa, lives in the United States, but represents Slovakia, because he has a Slovak citizenship. His wife Martina Stofanikova is from Slovakia. Sabbatini has six PGA Tour titles under his belt. His first triumph was 21 years ago at the 2000 Air Canada Championship.
Sabbatini’s round of 61 today is the lowest round in the history of the Olympics.
