Johannes Veerman and Mitch Waite took the lead before the darkness to interrupt the opening day of the Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Open. The duo sits at the top with score of seven under par after first round 64. Five players, including Ryder Cup stars Jamie Donaldson and Andy Sullivan, share second place at six under par, just a shot behind the leaders. The day was marked by very low scoring and 88 players managed to play the course on par or better.
First round leaderboard:
Johannes Veerman is playing his first full European Tour season. The American got his card after visiting the Q School last November.
Mitch Waite is the surprising name on the first page of the leaderboard. The Englishman, who is ranked 974th in the world, is playing his fourth European Tour event.
Sami Valimaki completed his round just before the organizers to suspend play for the day. Valimaki posted first round 66 and he is in the group at six under par.
