Matthew Fitzpatrick holds the halfway lead at Italian Open

World number 31 Matthew Fitzpatrick matched the best score of the day and after a round of 65 took the half way lead at the 2019 Italian Open. Fitzpatrick leads at 10 under par and will start the third rund with one shot advantage over Joachim B. Hansen. Hansen, who started in the morning session, had the lead almost all day long before Fitzpatrick to storm ahead with three birdies on his last five holes.

Third round leaderboard:

Matthew Fitzpatrick managed to record a win in all seasons since he turned pro in 2014. He has three runner-up finishes so far this year, but is yet to claim a title. His last European Tour win came last September at the Omega European Masters.

After Francesco Molinari and The Open champion Shane Lowry missed the cut Justin Rose remains the strongest candidate for the triumph on Sunday. Rose is at the group at seven under and he is only two behind the leader.
