Graeme McDowell and Gavin Green lead the way at Saudi International

The 2010 U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell and Gavin Green (Malaysia) took the lead after the opening day of the 2020 Saudi International. The duo shares first place at six under par after opening round 64. Five players, including the 2016 Open champion Henrik Stenson, are just a shot behind and share third place at five under par.

First round leaderboard:

Gavin Green was in the first group of the day and had the chance to take the early lead which he kept until the end of the day. It is a supersize that Gavin Green is still looking for his maiden European Tour title as we see often his name on the first page of the leaderboards.

Graeme McDowell has 10 European Tour titles under his belt, but last triumph came six years ago. In June 2014 he won the Alstom Open de France. In the last few years McDowell plays mainly on the PGA Tour.

We don’t see Phil Mickelson often playing on the European Tour so it’s not a surprise that he always gets a lot of attention when he is playing. Mickelson had a tough start of the day after a double bogey on the par four second. The American turned on fire on the back nine where he managed to make seven birdies. As a result Mickelson climbed to four under par and shared eight place.
