Thomas Pieters posted final round 68 and with a total score of 19 under par claimed the title at the 2021 Portugal Masters. The Belgian finished two clear of Lucas Bjerregaard, Nicolai Højgaard and Matthieu Pavon who shared second place at 17 under par.
This is the fifth title of Thomas Pieters on the European Tour and his first since August 2019. Thanks to it the Belgian climbed to 29th on the Race to Dubai. As a result of his triumph in Portugal Pieters will return inside the top 80 golfers on the planet. He started the week as world number 129th.
Matthieu Pavon played great golf all week and has all the chances to win for the first time on the European Tour. The Frenchman was four under for the day through 10 holes, but then came the par five 12th where he made a triple bogey. Still he carded his best result on the European Tour and gave himself a chance to qualify for the season-ending DP WORLD TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP.
