Andrea Pavan from Italy won the 2019 BMW International Open and claimed his second European Tour title. Pavan, who was leading after the opening round, played solid on Sunday and posted final round 66. This sent him to 15 under par for the tournament. Matthew Fitzpatrick from England birdied his last hole to match Pavan’s 15 under par and secured a place in the playoff. Both players made par on the first extra hole, but a magnificent birdie from Pavan on the second extra hole secured him the trophy.
BMW International Open final leaderboard:
Andrea Pavan, who won the 2018 D+D Real Czech Masters, already posted some good results this season, but the best one came today in Munich. Thanks to this win Pavan will find a place among the top 100 golfers at the Official World Golf Ranking from Monday.
Matthew Fitzpatrick have to settle with the second place, but he has reasons to be happy. This was his first top 10 finish in an European Tour event since last November.
The defending champion Matt Wallace had his chances, but he finished just short. Wallace needed birdie on the par 5 18th to find a place in the playoff. Instead of birdie, Wallace bogeyed the hole and shared third place in the final leaderboard.
